Banff Land Use: Exploring Options and Opportunities

The Town of Banff wants to hear from residents on a number of issues under review including density, design and environmental standards.  They have a new online survey in place to give you an easy way to provide feedback and thoughts on Phase one options and opportunities.  To access the survey, visit the Phase one section of www.banff.ca/ourlanduse and click on the survey links.  You’ll find questions and feedback opportunities at the bottom of each page.

Be Bear Aware!

It is that time of year when the bears come to the valley bottoms looking for food.  The delayed spring weather has meant there is a lack of food at higher elevations and we are seeing a very high concentration of bears in the valley.  Parks Canada has issued bear warnings for many of the trails around the Banff town site including the Fenland trail, Vermillion Lakes Dr., Sundance Canyon, the Marsh Loop and Healy Trail.  It is important to be aware and pay attention to your surroundings while recreating in the Bow Valley.  Please make noise while you travel and make sure your dogs are on a leash.  It is also very important to ensure all garbage is safely stored and disposed of and BBQs are clean.  For more information on living safely with bears, please follow the link.

If you would like to voice your opinion on this proposal, email Lori Villebrun at lori.villebrun@gov.ab.ca

Cell Phone Recycling at The Town of Banff

The Town of Banff is collecting used cell phones, regardless of age or condition on an ongoing basis.  The charitable donation of your cell phone will support the Campership Program, which will receive a $1 monetary donation for each phone received.  This allows underpriveliged children to attend summer camps.  The phones will be recycled and sent to areas where they are needed.  Some phones are also refurbished and given to those who are in need of 911 emergency communications.  This program keeps cell phones, containing many toxic chemicals that are hazardous to the environment out of the landfills.  Please bring your used cell phone to Banff Town Hall.  If you would like more information about the program, please contact Bylaw Services at 403.762.1218.
